Thanks to everyone who submitted their e-mails and letters with Alex Box memories. You gave us something we couldn't find anywhere else: your perspective on The Box.
A special thanks to those who sent their stuff in again after our e-mail server issues. We appear to have received a number of second-time-around entries, and some of the originals resurfaced, which is good.
We're running some every day in The Advocate, and we'll get more online here at 2theadvocate.com.
Thanks again, and make sure you pick up the paper daily. We've got a story tomorrow on LSU stadium announcer Bill Franques, plus another good list of your memories of the Box.
Friday's sports section will have a four-page wrap-around similar to the Game Day section we publish on football Saturdays. This wrap will be about Alex Box Stadium, and you'll want to keep it, I'm sure.
The rest of the weekend will feature expanded coverage of the three LSU games vs. Mississippi State, plus a Sunday story on Page 1A with a special point of view about the final days of The Box. I won't say a lot about that right now, but I think you're going to learn a few things you didn't already know about some of the history connected with the stadium -- and some interesting connections between LSU sporting icons, names you've heard about for decades.
The blog will have much more Sunday for you to delve into if you're so inclined.
It promises to be a fun and memorable weekend. Retiring Mississippi State coach Ron Polk and retiring LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman will help with the Alex Box Stadium countdown, and the Tigers will try to extend their winning streak to a season-best 10 games and continue their quest for an SEC Western Division championship and a possible NCAA regional bid at The Box.
Wouldn't that be something?
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy the coverage the rest of the way.
