3:10 p.m. -- Tigers get two

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- LSU refuses to give up on the idea of a sweep. The Tigers scored two runs on three hits and an error in the top of the eighth inning.
 
Derek Helenihi led off and got to second base on a two-base error by the first baseman. Matt Clark doubled off the wall in center field to cut the deficit to 8-6.
 
D.J. LeMahieu fought off a lot of pitches before getting a full count, then lining a single to right field. Clark, not known for his speed afoot, had to hold at third base.
 
Sean Ochinko pinch hit for Leon Landry for a more favorable righty-lefty batter-pitcher matchup, but Ochinko struck out on three pitches. With runners on the corners and one out, Ryan Schimpf hit a ground ball to second base that was slow enough to keep Kentucky from turning a double play. Clark scored, LeMahieu was forced at second, and Schimpf was safe at first.
 
That made it 8-7.
 
Michael Hollander banged one off the chest of third baseman Chris McClendon for an infield single that put runners at first and second with two outs for Jared Mitchell. A mound visit and infield meeting ensued, and Mitchell got his chance left-on-left against Andrew Albers.
 
Mitchell got a full count before Albers froze him with a little hook for strike three and the third out.
 
NOTE: My standard late-innings reminder -- I'll be heading down to field level for postgame interviews, so if you don't get an immediate wrap-up post from me at the end of the game, please understand the reason. I promise I'll get back up to the press box as soon as possible to close it out for you.
 
It's getaway day, so the Tigers won't linger. I'll have to make sure I'm there to get them before they get on the bus for the ride back to the airport. It's not my wish to leave you hanging, but primary duty calls. I'll get back to the blog ASAP.
 
Maybe David will pinch hit again and update you before I get back. At any rate, I'll see you soon.

    Tigers Win!!! Matt clark hit a 9th inning, two out, two run, Home Run to give LSU a 9-8 lead, then Jared Bradford allowed one hit but no runs in the ninth for the save. LSU steals one and gets the sweep. Tigers continue to prove they are BACK!! Yeah!!
