LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky changed pitchers for the seventh inning, replacing right-handed starter Greg Dombrowski with left-handed reliever Andrew Albers.
Jared Mitchell was the first LSU batter to face Albers, and Mitchell singled up the middle. Blake Dean hit a hard liner back at Albers on the hit-and-run, and Kentucky got the double play when Mitchell was caught about 90 feet away from first base.
I didn't see if Mitchell looked back at the plate as he approached second base, so it's possible he was stealing, but for now we'll say it was a hit-and-run. Either way, that made it two outs with nobody on base.
Micah Gibbs made the third out with a called third strike.
An aggressive running game mostly helped LSU yesterday. It hurt at times, but the Tigers made enough things happen for the doubleheader sweep. This time, it didn't work out.
I'd say that's baseball, but you probably don't want to hear that right now.
Kentucky's lead remains 8-5 in the bottom of the seventh.
2:45 update: Kentucky went down in order in the inning. We move to the eighth. Right now it's a buyer's market, not a seller's market, for brooms over by the LSU side. Or maybe I mean it the other way around. I think you get the point.
6:30 update: I checked with Paul Mainieri, and Mitchell ran on his own when he was doubled up. Mainieri said Mitchell got the signals confused and ran when he should have stayed put.
10:00 update: Those brooms finally got to do their job, didn't they?
