Cannon Shots: Nov. 21, 1959
Game 10: LSU 14, Tulane 6
In the final home game for Cannon and 18 other LSU seniors, the Tigers find the going surprisingly tough against a Tulane team they dominated the previous season.
It’s a scoreless tie before Cannon breaks loose on a 45-yard, third-quarter touchdown jaunt, the highlight of the All-American’s 14-carry, 66-yard effort. A scoring run by Earl Gros later in the period helps the Tigers salt the victory before 65,000 fans.
In beating the Green Wave, LSU closes the book on a 9-1 regular season.
Days later, coaches and players huddle to discuss a possible rematch with Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. After hours of deliberation, the Tigers accept the bid.
