While LSU’s 24-16 win over Louisiana Tech will go down as a win for the Tigers, in many ways, it was a historically strong performance for Bulldogs.
When Louisiana Tech scored on the last play of the first half to take the lead, it marked the first time Louisiana Tech had a lead on LSU since 1904 when Tech beat the Tigers 6-0 in the Bulldogs’ only win in the series with LSU. The Tigers lead the series 18-1.
The 16 points Tech scored was the most it has ever scored against LSU. Tech managed 10 points in its last two games with the Tigers, a 49-10 LSU win in 2003 and a 58-10 LSU win in 2007.
Miles-stone
LSU coach Les Miles became the third LSU coach to win 50 games at the school. The win moved him to 50-13 in his fifth season with the Tigers.
Miles, who has a 78-34 overall record that includes a previous stint at Oklahoma State, trails Charles McClendon (137) and Bernie Moore (89) in LSU’s all-time wins chart.
Ouch
With Charles Scott out for the rest of the regular season with a broken collarbone, Keiland Williams got his first start of the year at running back for LSU and finished with a season-high 116 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns.
Also, Jarrett Lee got his first start of the season at quarterback for the injured Jordan Jefferson. Jefferson, however, was dressed, though he never saw the field. Lee completed seven of 22 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Also sitting out was tight end Richard Dickson (leg) and center T-Bob Hebert (ankle). Mitch Joseph and DeAngelo Peterson got the bulk of the snaps at tight end. Patrick Lonergan got his first start at center.
Also, Lavar Edwards got his first career start at defensive end and Thomas Parsons got his first start at fullback for LSU.
LSU safety Brandon Taylor was shaken up on the last play of the first quarter and was helped off the field. Terrence Toliver was shaken up on a hard hit by Tech’s Chad Boyd on the third play of the second half and was helped off the field. Both players returned.
