Cannon Shots: Nov. 7, 1959
Game 8: Tennessee 14, LSU 13
A winning streak that began late in the 1957 season died at 19 when LSU, coming off its immortal Halloween victory over Ole Miss a week earlier, allowed Tennessee to close the book on its long run atop the national rankings.
Cannon had a career day, rushing for 122 yards on 21 carries. He alone outgained the Tennessee offense, which produced just 112 yards and nine first downs.
But it wasn’t meant to be. Four turnovers, a missed field goal and a knee injury to quarterback Warren Rabb helped 13th-ranked Tennessee stun the Tigers before 47,000 homecoming fans on a chilly Saturday in Knoxville.
