A day after being named Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, LSU middle blocker Brittnee Cooper picked up Collegiate Volleyball Update National Player of the Week honors. She joins Lauren DeGirolamo, who earned this prestigious accolade during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
“Brittnee has worked exceedingly hard in all facets of her game and is very deserving of this award,” head coach Fran Flory said. “She has developed into one of the best middle blockers in the nation and affects matches not only with her kills on offense but her blocking on defense.”
Cooper paces LSU and has powered home 287 kills this season. She has reached 15 or more kills on eight occasions, including three of her past four matches. Cooper’s .384 hitting percentage and 1.39 blocks per set headline the SEC. The 1.39 blocks per frame also rank 14th nationally.
LSU returns to action and starts a four-match road swing Friday at Ole Miss. First serve scheduled for 7 p.m.

ST. GERMAIN NAMED SEC FEMALE DIVER OF THE WEEK: For the second time this season, LSU freshman diver Rebecca St. Germain has been honored by the Southeastern Conference as she was named the SEC Female Diver of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
“It’s a good reward for her hard work,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Becca is training really well and has raised her level of performance in every competition she’s competed in.”
St. Germain, who earned SEC Female Freshman of the Week honors after her performance against Tennessee on Oct. 17, helped the Lady Tigers register their first victory of the season last Friday versus Tulane with wins in both springboard diving events.
St. Germain tallied a career-high 310.95 points in the one-meter, the fifth-highest total in school history, and recorded another career-high score in the three-meter, 313.43.
The freshman is currently ranked third in the conference in the three-meter and fourth in the one-meter.

RUN/WALK SATURDAY FOR CANCER AWARENESS: The LSU Athletic Department, joining athletic departments all over the country, will host a three-mile run/walk at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium as part of a national campaign to raise awareness and funds to benefit pancreatic cancer research.
The event is being held in honor of late NCAA President Myles Brand, who died Sept. 16 of pancreatic cancer. The National Association of Basketball Coaches has created a “Miles for Myles” initiative to be conducted on college campuses across the nation this weekend on either Saturday or Sunday.
