The coaches didn’t repeat the cold shoulder the media gave to Tasmin Mitchell.

The LSU senior was a unanimous pick on the first team of the coaches preseason All-Southeastern Conference team released Monday.

Mitchell, a returning first-team All-SEC player, was part of an eight-person first team. He did not make the five-man first team of the media preseason all-conference team released last week.

Mitchell, who averaged 16.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game last season, was one of six unanimous first-team picks. He enters his senior season as one of just nine players to have started on two SEC championship teams, and he has a chance to become the third LSU player to reach 2,000 career points.

Other unanimous picks were South Carolina’s Devan Downey, Kentucky’s Patrick Patterson, Mississippi State’s Jarvis Varnado, Tennessee’s Tyler Smith and Ole Miss’ Terrico White.

Of the six unanimously selected players, Mitchell was the only one left off the media’s first team.

The league’s 12 coaches spread their votes among 27 players for a pair of eight-player teams. Mitchell was the only Tiger to make either team.

The other first-team members were Vanderbilt’s A.J. Ogilvy and Arkansas’ Michael Washington.

Washington did not make the first or second team of the media team. Ogilvy was on second team.

The coaches did not do a poll for order of finish like the media.
