LSU baseball scrimmage set today

The LSU baseball team will hold a scrimmage today in Alex Box Stadium before the Tigers’ national championship ring ceremony.

Admission is free to both the scrimmage and the ring ceremony, and concessions will be available.

Gates to the stadium will open at 11 a.m., and the team will begin its workout at noon. The scrimmage starts at 1 p.m. and is scheduled to last approximately 90 minutes.

The team will receive its rings in Alex Box Stadium during a ceremony at 4 p.m.

The ceremony will feature remarks from Athletic Director Joe Alleva and coach Paul Mainieri, along with a video presentation.

The Tigers will sign autographs for one hour following the ceremony on the concourse level inside Alex Box Stadium.

First game of ULL Series postponed

LAFAYETTE — Inclement weather Friday forced the postponement of the start of the 2009 Ragin’ Cajuns Baseball Fall World Series involving the University of Louisiana at Lafayette baseball team at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

The series opener, scheduled for Friday, was been rained out and pushed back to today at 6:30 p.m. Game two will be held Sunday at 1 p.m., and the “if necessary” game will be played Monday at 6:30 p.m.

According to head coach Tony Robichaux, the wind associated with Friday’s storm system blew the tarp off of the infield, eliminating any chance of having the field ready for a game Friday.

Should the field conditions still be unplayable today, there will be a doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m., followed by the “if necessary” game on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Anthony in position for Bassmaster spot

TAVARES, Fla. — Sam Anthony needs one more solid catch today to earn a spot in next year’s Bassmaster Classic after he and 54 other anglers have spent two days on the Harris Chain of Lakes in the Bassmaster Federation Nation Championship.
