Florida turns out lights on LSU streak

Florida halted several notable LSU streaks and extended a few of its own with Saturday’s 13-3 triumph at Tiger Stadium.

The No. 1-ranked Gators ended the Tigers’ 32-game Saturday night home-winning streak.

Florida also won its second game in a row in a matchup of top-five Southeastern Conference teams. The Gators edged Alabama 31-20 in last year’s SEC Championship Game.

Saturday was only the 16th time two top-five SEC foes have squared off, and Florida is 5-2 in such games.

The Gators are also upped their record to 6-3 vs. LSU when Florida is a top-10 team and won for the fourth time in Tiger Stadium as a top-five team (1993, 1994, 2001, 2009).

LSU dropped to 2-9-1 in games against No. 1 opponents, 1-6-1 in Baton Rouge.

Sticking in the top 10

Despite suffering their first loss of the season, the Tigers remained in the top 10 in both major polls released Sunday.

LSU dropped six spots and is ranked 10th in The Associated Press and USA Today coaches polls.

Virginia Tech moved into the No. 4 hole vacated by the Tigers after a 48-14 romp past Boston College. The Hokies’ only loss this season came vs. Alabama (34-24), which leapfrogged Texas in the AP poll and into the No. 2 spot.

The Tigers are also the No. 10 team in SI.com’s mythical playoff bracket unveiled Sunday.

According to the bracket, LSU would square off with No. 7 Boise State in a first-round game. SI.com has Alabama ranked No. 1 and Florida No. 2.

Auburn game time

The kickoff time for LSU’s Oct. 24 home game against Auburn should be announced today, with the contest likely to be carried by CBS at 2:30 p.m. or ESPN in its 6:45 p.m. time slot.

Other SEC games that day include Tennessee at Alabama, Arkansas at Ole Miss, Florida at Mississippi State and Vanderbilt at South Carolina.
