As an Ocean Springs (Miss.) High freshman, Travis Dickson picked up the jersey his brother left behind.
Number 41.
“They were saving it for me,” Dickson said. “They weren’t going to let anybody else wear it.”
No word yet if Dickson will wear No. 18 when his football odyssey resumes.
Either way, the Class of 2010 prospect plans to follow Richard Dickson’s lead one more time.
Travis Dickson — who also goes by “J.T.,” short for James Travis — committed to LSU while in town Saturday to watch his brother play tight end for the Tigers in a preseason scrimmage.
The prospect made the trip with his parents, who knew good and well what the younger of the Dickson brothers was up to.
Richard Dickson, however, was in the dark.
“I figured my parents would have told him,” Travis Dickson said, recalling No. 18’s surprise.
Dickson plays tight end, fullback and defensive end for Ocean Springs. Like his brother, he projects as a tight end in college.
Richard Dickson, a two-time second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection, enters his senior season with 69 catches for 795 yards, ranking him among the most productive pass-catching tight ends in LSU history.
Also, Carly Dickson, the sister of the football players, remains in Baton Rouge after receiving her master’s degree from LSU recently.
In keeping it in the family, Travis Dickson brought LSU’s commitment total to 22, with National Signing Day about six months away.
