LSU’s Spencer earns postgrad scholarship

Former LSU women’s tennis player Staten Spencer has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
Spencer, who competed in 2009 as a fifth-year senior, has already completed her first year of graduate school in economics at LSU.
“The scholarship will help me further my graduate studies in economics and begin pursuing my goal of helping African countries develop their economies,” Spencer said.
The scholarship is a one-time grant of $7,500 that is awarded to 29 men and 29 women for each sports season: fall, winter and spring.
LSU swimmers cited for academics
Former LSU swimmers Julius Gloeckner and Katherine Noland and current swimmer Jane Trepp were named 2009 Individual Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The LSU women’s team earned Academic All-America Team honors for the second consecutive semester.
Sophomore Clint Hallum was also recognized as an honorable mention Scholar All-American.
Tulane’s Radosevic Athlete of the Year
NEW ORLEANS — Tulane volleyball player Sara Radosevic was named the 2008-09 Conference USA Female Athlete of the Year, C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky said Wednesday. Radosevic, a four-time AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selection, was the C-USA Player of the Year for volleyball this past season.
This past season, she led the Green Wave in points (528.0), kills (456), kills per set (3.62) and service aces (42), while ranking second in digs (327) and digs per set (2.60) as the Green Wave won the Conference USA tournament championship.
McNeese names assistant coaches
LAKE CHARLES — Chris Taylor and Nicole Wilson have been named assistant volleyball coaches for the women’s program at McNeese State, pending state board approval.
Taylor comes to McNeese after a three-year stint at Louisiana-Monroe, where he served as a graduate assistant for the past two seasons. He’s also served as an assistant coach at Western Carolina and Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind.
