Some “firsts” at the new Alex Box Stadium:

PITCH: LSU’s Louis Coleman, a pitch that was fouled off by Villanova leadoff hitter Matt McFolling at 7:16 p.m.

OUT: McFolling struck out looking in the top of the first.

STRIKEOUT: McFolling, looking on first at-bat of the game against Coleman.

LSU BATTER: Leon Landry grounded out to second base in the bottom of the first.

ERROR: Villanova shortstop Tyler Sciacca, a throwing error that allowed LSU’s Ryan Schimpf to reach safely in the bottom of the first inning.

HIT: LSU’s Micah Gibbs; infield single in bottom of the first inning.

HIT BY PITCH: LSU’s DJ LeMahieu, by Villanova pitcher Chris Pack in the bottom of the first inning.

STOLEN BASE: Schimpf stole second base with two outs in the bottom of the first.

RUN: Schimpf with two outs in the bottom of the first, followed quickly by catcher Micah Gibbs on the same play.

RBI: LSU’s Jared Mitchell drove in two runs with a bases-loaded, line-drive single with two out in the bottom of the first inning.

FIRST TRAIN: 7:36 p.m., bottom of the first inning

BALK: Villanova’s Chris Pack, second inning. Derek Helenihi scored with one out and Leon Landry advanced to second base.

WILD PITCH: Coleman on an 0-and-2 count with two outs to Villanova’s Darin Hall in the top of the third inning.

FIRST ARGUMENT: LSU coach Paul Mainieri with first-base ump Mark Chapman after Villanova’s Justin Bencsko was called safe on a bang-bang 3-1 play in the top of the third inning.

FIRST DOUBLE PLAY: In the fourth inning, Schimpf lined to Villanova third baseman Kevin Wager, who throws to first base to double up Landry, who had broken for second base on the pitch.

DOUBLE: LSU’s Chad Jones in the third inning.

TRIPLE: LSU’s DJ LeMahieu in the fifth inning.

HOME RUN: LSU’s Blake Dean, a three-run line-drive blast off Villanova reliever Mike Francisco in the bottom of the sixth inning.

VICTORY: LSU 12, Villanova 3.

WINNING PITCHER: Coleman.

HOME PLATE UMP: Tom Laryrisson.

CROWD: 9,054 (10,019 paid), school record.
