LSU 12th in Director's Cup standings
A fifth-place showing at the NCAA Championships by the LSU gymnastics team two weeks ago help propel the Tigers up a spot to No. 12 in the latest U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup.
The LSU gymnastics team earned 75 points, running the school’s point total to 604.5 points. LSU sits just outside the top 10 in the standings. Fellow Southeastern Conference member school Florida currently sits in 10th place with 607.75 points.
Stanford continues to lead the Directors' Cup Standings with 780 points, followed by Michigan at No. 2 with 762 points.
LSU is ranked second among all SEC schools, trailing only Florida. Other SEC institutions in the top 25 include Tennessee at No. 14 (576.75 points) and Georgia at No. 17 (525.5 points).
LSU’s other Directors' Cup points total have come from football (100 points), women’s indoor track (90 points), women’s basketball (83 points), men’s indoor track and field (80 points), volleyball (50 points), women’s soccer (50 points), men’s swimming (44.5 points), and women’s swimming (32 points).
LSU is still in position to receive points from the sports of men’s and women’s outdoor track, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, baseball and softball.
Last year, LSU finished ranked No. 17 in the nation in the Directors’ Cup with a total of 888 points.
The U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program’s sponsor.
Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports – 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
