Jacksonville State considers Perrilloux

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Jacksonville State coach Jack Crowe has spoken to the family of former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux about a possible transfer to a Football Championship Subdivision team with no scholarship quarterbacks on the roster.
Crowe said Tuesday he also had a discussion with LSU coach Les Miles, who kicked Perrilloux off the defending national championship team after repeated off-the-field problems.
“Les was very kind to spend quite a bit of time explaining the situation to me,” Crowe said. “He’s very optimistic about him being a successful player and a successful student-athlete.”
Williams camp set for Saturday
BREC invites children ages 6 and older to participate in the 27th Doug Williams Football Camp from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
The camp will basic football skill, as well as speed and quickness drills. Registration will be on-site and the camp is free.
Doug Williams was the first Black quarterback to start in a Super Bowl and was voted the Most Valuable Player in Super Bowl XXII.
LSWA honors Maragas, Bradford
Louisiana-Monroe catcher Nick Maragas and LSU pitcher Jared Bradford were named Tuesday as the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Baseball Players of the Week.
Maragas, a senior from Canton, Ohio, was named Hitter of the Week as he batted .636 (7-for-11) with six RBIs.
Maragas played catcher and designated hitter for the Warhawks and came within a home run of the cycle in the second game at South Alabama; he hit a homer in his first at-bat of the following game.
Bradford, who appeared in all three games of LSU’s sweep at No. 16 Kentucky last weekend, was named Pitcher of the Week.
