With a two-week break behind them, LSU’s football players and coaches get back to work today and begin fine-tuning for the spring game April 5.
The biggest question for the Tigers as they get back to work is whether junior quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will be back with the team when it takes the field at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
Perrilloux, the heir apparent for the starting job left vacant when Matt Flynn graduated, has been under indefinite suspension since mid-February for a series of missteps since LSU claimed the 2007 BCS national championship with a 38-24 victory over Ohio State.
He has not practiced with the team all spring, but did recently move back onto campus from an off-campus apartment.
LSU media relations director Michael Bonnette said Tuesday he is not aware whether Perrilloux will return to practice today or at any point this spring.
Whether Perrilloux is back or not, redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee and junior Andrew Hatch will continue to take snaps with the first team the rest of the spring.
The Tigers 2007 senior class will be on display for the NFL today as 16 former LSU players will go through a series of lifts, runs and jumps at the school’s annual Pro Day at the McClendon Facility.
More than 100 NFL personnel are expected for the event, which will feature LSU All-American defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, wide receiver Early Doucet, quarterback Flynn, and running back Jacob Hester.
Other Tigers expected to participate include: offensive guard Will Arnold, punter Patrick Fisher, linebacker Ali Highsmith, cornerback Chevis Jackson, fullback Shawn Jordan, wide receiver Josh McManus, deep snapper Jacob O’Hair, linebacker Luke Sanders, safety Craig Steltz, offensive tackle Carnell Stewart, cornerback Jonathan Zenon and tight end Keith Zinger.
The players will go through a series of tests with the scouts, including the 40-yard dash, the 225-bench press, vertical leap, broad jump, shuttle run and the 3-cone drill. The players will also have their measurements in height, weight, hand span and wing span taken.
Video highlights of all of the day’s action can be seen today in the Geaux Zone on LSUsports.net. In addition, LSUsports.net will keep a running tally for each player’s results in the different testing categories.
