Tip-off set for Thursday’s game
Mickles: N.O. finds edge looking at replay

NEW ORLEANS — An hour before tipoff of Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinal series between the New Orleans Hornets and San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, a TV set in the Hornets’ locker room was tuned in to a replay of Game 4.

NEW ORLEANS — The tip-off for Game 6 between the Hornets and the Spurs on Thursday night in San Antonio was set for 8 p.m. after the Detroit Pistons completed a 4-1 series victory with a 91-86 victory against Orlando on Tuesday.

NEW ORLEANS — The Hornets know that home teams have been nearly unbeatable in the NBA conference semifinals. They also know that it’s going to take a lot more than homecourt advantage for them to beat the Spurs in Game 5 of their Western Conference series at 8:30 p.m. today in the New Orleans Arena.

NEW ORLEANS — The Hornets knew they would take the Spurs’ best shot in Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal series. The defending NBA champions were back home and in desperate need of a victory after losing the first two games in New Orleans. So the fact San Antonio played like a champion and got its much-needed win in Game 3 on Thursday night isn’t surprising. What is surprising is the fact that the Spurs scored 110 points in doing so.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- There was no third-quarter breakdown for the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night, just the desperate play of a team whose quest for a second straight NBA title was on the line. Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili both scored 31 points to lead the Spurs to a 110-99 victory over the New Orleans Hornets in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul was selected to the 2007-08 All-NBA first team on Thursday. Paul is the first Hornet in franchise history to receive the honor.
