PORT ALLEN — The City Council agreed Wednesday to consider a proposed ordinance changing the name of Village Street to Tracy Porter Street in honor of the New Orleans Saints player and Port Allen native.

Porter, a Saints cornerback, played an instrumental role in both the Saints’ recent National Football Conference playoff win over the Minnesota Vikings and the team’s Super Bowl XLIV victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Miami last month.

The proposed ordinance renaming the Port Allen street in honor of Porter is scheduled for discussion during a public hearing at the City Council’s April 14 meeting.

Barry Brewer, the city’s chief administrative officer,  said the City Council plans to  vote on the name change ordinance after the public hearing.

Hmm, as well meaning as this is, they should take a cue from many other places, like LSU, and wait until after he has died. Naming something after a living person opens you up to alot of problems if that person ends up in jail for fraud or murder... and I'm NOT saying that Porter could do something like that, but its just a thought.

    What's this?
