A&M earns SWAC title berth

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Ulysses Banks rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown to help Alabama A&M defeat Mississippi Valley State 17-12 and clinch a berth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference title game.
The Bulldogs (7-4, 4-3), who won the Eastern Division championship, will play Prairie View A&M for the championship on Dec. 12 in Birmingham, Ala.
Banks scored on a 1-yard run to give Alabama A&M a 10-0 lead with 2:09 left in the first quarter.
Korey Morrison ran an interception back 30 yards for a 17-0 lead with 13:28 remaining in the second quarter.
MVSU (3-8, 1-6) cut the lead to 17-6 on Stephen Robert’s 2-yard run with 1:27 left before halftime, but the Delta Devils couldn’t score again until 2 seconds left in the game, when Chris Williams caught a 6-yard pass from Eddie Ivory Jr.
Deaunte Mason was 12-for-21 for 98 yards and rushed for 45 yards for Alabama A&M.
Robert finished with 71 yards.
PRAIRIE VIEW 49, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 17: In Prairie View, Texas, K.J. Black threw for five touchdowns and 312 yards to lead Prairie View A&M over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The win closed out a dominant season by Prairie View (8-1, 7-0), which already clinched the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division title.
Black’s longest touchdown toss was for 41 yards to Shaun Stephens in the first quarter. He also completed scoring throws in each of the first three quarters to Gabe Osaze-Ediae, as well as another to Stephens with less than 7 minutes left in the game.
Donald Babers ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns, including a 76-yard scoring dash in fourth quarter for the Panthers.
Josh Boudreaux threw for a touchdown and ran for one more for the Golden Lions (5-4, 3-3). Carlos Reyes had 45-yard field goal.
ALCORN STATE 14, JACKSON STATE 7: In Jackson, Miss., Tim Buckley threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and Alcorn State made them stand up in a victory over Jackson State in both teams’ season finale.
