Six months ago, LSU football tied a ribbon around its most touted recruiting class of the Les Miles era.

The Tigers continue to plow toward another National Signing Day to remember — day by day, commitment by commitment.

The latest pledge comes from dual-threat quarterback Spencer Ware of Princeton High in Cincinnati.

Ware, who projects as a running back in college, committed to Miles on Wednesday, according to various Internet reports.

Should he sign with the Tigers, Ware would become the first player from the Buckeye State to sign with the Tigers in three decades.

LSU signed Cleveland’s Bob Smith, Cincinnati’s Eric Ellington and Springfield’s Eric Bauer in 1980.

Picking up Ware bumps LSU to 21 commitments from the Class of 2010.

Only Stanford, with 23 commitments, has more.

The Tigers can sign up to 28 players, the new Southeastern Conference limit. National Signing Day is Feb. 3.

“We’re recruiting at a higher level than we ever have before,” Miles said Wednesday at his annual Rotary Club address. “We’re on the cutting edge now, getting things done much earlier than we used to.”

En route to a 25-player 2009 haul, LSU picked up its 21st commitment Jan. 2, when Craig Loston made his pledge. The Tigers had 15 commitments for 2009 on this day last year.

ESPNU, which named LSU’s last class the best in the nation, has not released Class of 2010 team rankings. Rivals.com and Scout.com each updated their 2010 rankings Wednesday afternoon.

Rivals.com lists LSU at No. 4 in the nation, behind No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Florida and No. 3 Oklahoma. Alabama and Georgia rank fifth and sixth, respectively.
