Teachman named to national scholar list
LSU women’s golfer Tessa Teachman was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar team announced by the association.
Teachman, who will be a sophomore at LSU this fall, helped the Lady Tigers to a 12th-place finish in the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships.
The Baton Rouge golfer qualified for one of the toughest scholar teams to make. The minimum cumulative grade-point average is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
A total of 410 golfers in Divisions I, II and III qualified for the team this year.
Cummings qualifies for Hershey’s meet
Baton Rouge’s Kameron Cummings is one of six Louisiana youngsters selected to participate in the Hershey Track and Field North American finals next month.
The six participants will join representatives from Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and New Mexico on the region team that will travel to Hershey, Pa., for the finals meet on Aug. 1.
Cummings was the gold- medal winner in the boys 11-12-year-old 100-meter dash.
Cummings ran a time of 12.19 seconds in a qualifier meet
to earn a spot on the region team.
Also making the squad in the 100-meter dash were Bastrop’s Quaterius Hawkins in the
9-10- year-old group and Trevious Crossley in the 13-14 age group.
