Nicholls State notches victory over SUNO

THIBODAUX — Fred Hunter scored 27 points and Nicholls State defeated Southern, New Orleans 80-56 on Monday night.
The freshman was 11 of 13 from the field, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
Nicholls State (7-6) went on a 17-0 run to end the first half and took a 42-22 lead into half-time.
The Colonels shot 58.8 percent from the floor (30-for-51), including 17 of 27 in the first half.
Ryan Bathie scored 18 points and Justin Paine had four steals for Nicholls State.
The Knights (0-11), who shot 27.6 percent from the field (8 of 29), were led by Lionel Green with 24 points and Brent Leduff with 15.
ALABAMA ST. 60, GRAMBLING ST. 46: In Montgomery, Ala., Chief Kickingstallionsims scored 23 points to lead Alabama State over Grambling.
Rashad Provitt added 15 points, including going 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, for the Hornets (5-7, 2-0 Southwest Athletic Conference).
Jamal Breaux led the Tigers (2-11, 0-2) with 12 points and Donald Qualls added 11, including hitting 3 of 6 3-pointers.
LOYOLA (N.O.) 72, WEST FLORIDA 70, OT: In Pensacola, Fla., Trenese Smith had a game-high 27 points, including a pair of free throws to force overtime, as Loyola defeated West Florida in the UWF Fieldhouse.
The Loyola defense held the Argos scoreless over the last 2:19 of the overtime period to secure the win.
Trenese Smith led with 27 points — her second highest total of the season. She shot 11 of 15 from the field, grabbed six rebounds and had a team high four steals. Trenell Smith added 14 points.
