Lowe: Area bowlers reach National Senior Olympics

The area Senior Olympics qualifying was held here recently and several bowlers qualified for the 2009 National Senior Olympics Games in San Francisco.
Here are some of the local qualifiers:
WOMEN’S DOUBLES: Age 50-54: 1. Desiree Acosta and Nova Carbo. Age 70-74: 1. Barbara Fore and Claudette LeBouef. Age 75-79: 1. Nell Grace and Mary Piper.
MEN’S DOUBLES: Age 70-74: 2. Ollie Legendre-Everett Fuller. Age 75-79: 2. Bob LeJeune and C. B. Patin. Age 80-84: 1. Wesley Watson and Nick Lawless.
MIXED DOUBLES: Age 60-64: 2. Cornelia Welsh and Charles Welsh. Age 70-74: 3. Claudette LeBoeuf and Alance LeBoeuf. Age 80-84: 1. Mary Lawless and Nick Lawless.
WOMEN’S SINGLES: Age 55-59: 1. Anna Sanders. Age 65-69: 3. Beverly Savoy. Age 70-74: 3. Barbara Fore. Age 85-89: 1. Urline Mire.
MEN’S SINGLES: Age 60-64: 3. Tim Toler. Age 70-74: 3. Jack Waltrip. Age 75-79: 2. Clarence Landreau. Age 80-84: 2. Bob LeJeune; 3. Wesley Watson.

Tournament entries
The entry blanks are out from the Greater Baton Rouge USBC for the 64th annual Open Championship Tournament and the 66th annual Women’s Championship Tournament. Both will be held at Don Carter’s on Feb. 21-22 and Feb. 28-March 1. Entries close Feb. 2.
The open event as a bonus has a total of $1,500 added to the prize fund. Squad times on all four days in both tournaments are 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The team events will be bowled on the two Saturdays and the Sunday dates will be doubles and singles.
The 72nd Southern Bowling Congress Tournament will be hosted by the Greater Baton Rouge Association at Circle and Don Carter’s and the dates for that are March 14-15, 21-22, 28-29 and April 3-5.
Entries for that tournament close Feb. 16.
