THIBODAUX — After opening the season with three consecutive road contests, Nicholls will host Louisiana-Lafayette at 6:30 p.m. today in Stopher Gym.

The Colonels (0-3, 0-0 SLC) have suffered road losses to South Alabama, Louisiana Tech and most recent to Ole Miss. Louisiana-Lafayette (0-7, 0-0 SBC) enters the game winless as well with its most recent loss to in-state and conference rival McNeese State, 56-46.

The all-time series is in favor of the Cajuns, 31-18, and Louisiana-Lafayette took the last installment, 74-47, last season in Lafayette. The last time the Colonels won in the series was in the 2001-02 season when Nicholls defeated ULL, 70-64.

Leading Nicholls in scoring and rebounding entering Friday’s game are seniors Dominique Washington and Christie Bryant as both boast a 5.7 ppg and 7.0 rpg average. Their 7.0 rebounds/game mark is currently ninth in the Southland Conference among individual players.

Louisiana-Lafayette is led by Alexis Green in points, averaging 15.0 per game D’Mya Clay has team high honors in rebounds with an average of 6.3 boards a contest.

The ticket window in Stopher Gym will open at 5:30 p.m. with tickets as low as $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Season tickets are still available, and can be purchased at the Nicholls Athletics Ticket Office located in Barker Hall, or by calling 985-448-4792.

MISSISSIPPI STATE 72, LOUISIANA TECH 42: In Starkville, Miss., Chanel Mokango scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Mississippi State over Louisiana Tech on Wednesday at Humphrey Coliseum.

Tech (2-4) committed 26 turnovers in the game, including 16 in a first half that saw the Lady Bulldogs (5-0) pull out to a 17-point halftime advantage.

Dowdell, Tech’s leading scorer and rebounder who was coming off a 30-point, 16-rebound performance against Western Kentucky, tried to play despite wearing a brace on her knee that she hurt in the loss to WKU.

The junior scored four points and grabbed two rebounds in 15 minutes before leaving the game with 18 minutes to play after hitting her head on the floor while trying to take a charge.

Without Dowdell at full strength, Tech was no match for the 6-foot-5 Mokango who hit 6-of-8 field goals and patrolled the lane all night.

The Lady Bulldogs led by as many as 19 in the first half before entering the locker room leading 37-20.

Mississippi State shot 40 percent (38-70) for the game and hit 14-of-18 free throws while holding Tech to only 31 percent (19-of-62), including only 1-of-16 from the three-point line.
