Southern softball adds three signees

The five-time defending SWAC Western Division champion Southern softball team signed three players to national letters of intent during the early signing period.
The three players are outfielder Gailyn Thibeaux of Lafayette High, pitcher/outfielder Joei Glynn of Clear Lake High School in Houston and pitcher/first basemen Kiah Williams (Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas.
Thibeaux was a four-year starter for Lafayette and played with the LaForce travel team.
Both of Glynn’s parents are Southern graduates She has six different pitches and six years of travel ball time with the Texas Ice 18 and under Gold team.
Williams played for the Missouri City Magic 18 and under team, which has been to the Amateur Softball Association national tournament, United States Softball Association national tournament and the National Fastpitch Softball Association national tournament.
SLU’s Carlin earns Southland honor
FRISCO, Texas — Southeastern Louisiana senior forward Kristy Carlin was named the Southland Conference women’s basketball player of the week on Monday as voted upon by the league’s sports information directors.
Carlin, a former Walker High standout, helped Southeastern to a 2-0 week, averaging 13.5 points and 10 rebounds in wins over Stetson and Centenary.
On Saturday, Carlin posted her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 78-52 win at Centenary — Southeastern’s most lopsided road win since 1996-97.
She scored a season-low six points in the win over Stetson, but led the Lady Lions with nine rebounds and hit two big shots in the eventual game-winning run.
Carlin is averaging a team-high 13.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest for the 3-2 Lady Lions.
Theriot wins powerlifting title
TAMPA, Fla. — Greg Theriot of Baton Rouge won the world championship in the 308-pound weight class, lifting a total of 2,556 pounds at the Powerlifting World Championships held Nov. 30.
