The Louisiana Tech football team, already qualified for a bowl a game, will look to enhance its résumé when it takes on Nevada at 1:30 p.m. today in Ruston.
The Bulldogs (7-4, 5-2 Western Athletic Conference), coming off a 35-31 victory over New Mexico State last week, can clinch second place in the WAC with a victory over the Wolfpack (6-5, 4-3).
Boise State (11-0, 7-0) leads the conference and is line for the WAC’s bid to the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, N.M. The Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu gets second choice of WAC teams while the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho, picks third.
Should Tech lose, there is a possibility of a three-way tie for second place in the league. Besides the aforementioned bowls, Tech could land in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, the Papa Johns Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., or the Texas Bowl in Houston.
Tech, currently on a four-game winning streak, is led by former Istrouma High School running back Daniel Porter, who has 1,036 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.
Patrick Jackson also has seven TDs on just 565 yards rushing.
The Bulldogs are splitting quarterback duties with starter Ross Jenkins throwing for 753 yards and five TDs while Taylor Bennett has 873 yards and two scores.
Patrick Livas leads Tech receivers with 519 yards and a score.
Nevada is the best in the nation rushing the ball, averaging 308.5 yards on the ground per game.
The Wolfpack averages 38.1 points a game and 511.6 yards of total offense.
Vai Taua leads the Wolfpack on the ground at 123.5 yards per game, while quarterback Colin Kaepernick averages 98.8 yards rushing.
While Tech is ranked second in rushing offense in the WAC, both teams have good defenses.
