NATCHITOCHES — Christian Life Academy’s Anna Katherine Devitt was among the individual champions on Monday at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association/State Farm State Cross Country Meet.

Devitt won the three-mile Class 1A girls race in 19 minutes, 45 seconds and was the only local champion on the first day of the two-day meet being held at Northwestern State.

Donaldsonville’s Ascension Catholic claimed fourth-place finishes in both the 1A boys and girls competitions. Family Christian Academy also placed fourth in the Class C boys competition.

Devitt, a freshman, said her goal was to break 20 minutes this year, which she said she ended up doing at almost every meet this year.

Devitt, who finished as runner-up last year as an eighth-grader, kept pace with Bailey Coleman, last year’s winner for the first 2 miles before Devitt broke away.

“The whole race she was just a few steps ahead,” Devitt said. When she pulled away, Devitt said she thought, “Wow, I could actually win this.”

Hanson Memorial of Franklin won the 1A girls competition with 29 points with ACHS finishing at 123. Aimee Prejeant was ninth overall to lead the Bulldogs.

Taylor Cavalier placed fourth to help ACHS compile 108 points in the boys competition. St. Martin’s and Metairie Park Country tied at 53 in the 1A boys competition by virtue of a higher finish by its No. 6 runner.

Choudrant swept the Class B titles and Elizabeth did likewise in Class C. Choudrant scored 26 points in the boys division and 45 on the girls side.

Runnels was the top local boys team, placing seventh, led by 17th-place finisher James Benham. Sarah Pressley finished fifth in Class C girls race. Maurepas was ninth to lead local teams. Elizabeth finished with 25 points in the girls division and 40 in the boys division in Class C.

Family Christian had a 103 score in the Class C boys competition.

Charleston Morrisse of FCA (13th) was the top local boys finisher, while Tameka Eachels of Louisisiana School for the Deaf (19th) was the top local girls finisher.
