SHREVEPORT — Evangel Christian has had a parade of quarterbacks put up gaudy numbers since the early 1990s. But on Friday, Dez Duron did something no Evangel quarterback has ever done before.

Duron tossed eight touchdown passes in the Eagles’ 69-0 romp over Springhill. The previous ECA mark for touchdown passes in a game was six, set by Brock Berlin against Sarah Reed in 1999.

Quinn Giles caught four of the TD passes from Duron, who finished 28-of-37 for 420 yards without an interception. Giles had seven catches for 148 yards.

Eric Thomas and Thomas Bridgewater also caught TD passes from Duron, whose backup, David Dee Duron, also had a TD pass to Jay Whatley. Evangel, ranked third in Class 2A, is 2-2 on the season.

Perfect no more

Second-ranked O.P. Walker (2-1) of Class 4A fell behind 24-0 in the first quarter to Class 5A Hahnville and ultimately wound up losing 36-14 on Friday.

Hahnville (2-1) got a 64-yard TD run from Alfred Blue, a 25-yard scoring run by Jai Steib, a 41-yard field goal by Brandon Larousse and a 19-yard fumble return from Jeremy Sellers.

Rebels rally

West Monroe (4-0) trailed 19-0 at halftime but rallied for a 20-19 win over rival Ouachita.

Ouachita kicker Matt Little missed what could have been a game-winning field goal with 8.3 seconds left. Ouachita has not beaten West Monroe, ranked second in Class 5A, since 1994.

Running back Montrell Conner rolled up 194 rushing yards on 25 carries and helped pave the way as Ouachita built its lead. Among Conner’s plays was a 65-yard TD run in the opening half.

West Monroe’s LaDarius Abrams ran for 180 yards on 20 carries and had a 54-yard run that set up the game-winning score.
