Grambling to host Langston
Grambling (2-2), opens Southwestern Athletic Conference play Oct. 4 when it plays Prairie View at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Their 29-0 win over Alcorn State on Sept. 6 didn’t count in the conference standings.
Langston, a Division II school from Oklahoma, is 3-1 with wins over Lincoln (47-17), Panhandle State (35-2) and Lane (13-0). The Lions lost to Stephen F. Austin 56-19 to open the season.
Picked to finish second in the Central States Football League, Langston is led by quarterback Danny Lowery who has 669 yards passing and seven touchdowns. Carlos Ross averages 77.7 yards per game rushing.
Raytron Mayfield is the top receiver, averaging 72.5 yards per game.
Grambling is led by running back Cornelius Walker (40 yards per game), receiver Kenneth Batiste (16 catches for 140 yards) and quarterback J.P. Tillman (415 yards passing, four TDs).
Grambling, which will be looking for its sixth straight home win, holds a 4-1 lead in the series, including a 37-30 win over the Lions in 2005 at Robinson Stadium.
