Texas A&M picked up its third commitment from a Louisiana prospect within a week after linebacker Jonathan Stewart of Shreveport-Byrd, the nation’s No. 16 rated prospect at his position by Rivals.com, selected the Aggies on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Stewart, who is academically qualified, chose Texas A&M over 18 scholarship offers that included Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The Aggies have also secured commitments from East St. John offensive lineman Patrick Lewis and New Iberia linebacker Michael Lamothe.

Stewart had 109 tackles, three sacks and an interception last season — earning first team All-District 1-5A honors.

La. Tech player arrested

SHREVEPORT — A Louisiana Tech football player suspended on Saturday had been arrested the day before, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick said Zachary Schreiber, 22, of Shreveport, was booked Friday with one count of simple burglary and three of principal to forgery, and released the same day on $9,736 bond.

Louisiana Tech announced Saturday that he had been suspended for breaking team rules, but did not say what rules he violated.

Chadwick said Schreiber and Kourtney Salter, 20, of Shreveport, are accused in thefts from unlocked vehicles on July 1.

Salter allegedly used credit cards taken from the vehicles to buy gas, cigarettes, food, and other items.

She was arrested first and given a summons for unauthorized use of an access card because none of the purchases qualified as a felony.

Chadwick said Salter was identified after news broadcast and Internet use of store surveillance videos showing her using the cards.

Drug charge dismissed

CAYCE, S.C. — An attorney for South Carolina freshman receiver Dion Lecorn says the simple possession of marijuana charge against his client has been dismissed.
