NEW YORK — Chicago Sky center and former LSU standout Sylvia Fowles was honored by the WNBA with its Community Assist Award for June.

Fowles has taken an active role in the team’s community outreach initiatives and is involved in organizations that support youth development, health and wellness and athletics.

Throughout the month of June, Fowles participated in numerous community events, including the tip-off of Chicago’s new “Make a Splash” program. The program is being instituted this summer throughout all public pools in the Chicago Park District to teach water safety to children.

“It feels great to have my work in the community recognized,” Fowles said. “I love reaching out to kids and although making a difference in the lives of others is rewarding in and of itself, my hope is that this award encourages others to do the same.”

Tiger Tech day set for LSU next week
