Stewart triple winner at state long course meet
SULPHUR — Paul Stewart of Crawfish Aquatics won three events on Friday, leading the local contingent at the Louisiana State Long Course Swimming Championships.
Stewart won the boys 14-and-under 400-meter individual medley in 5 minutes, 16.89 seconds and also won the 13- to 14-year-old 100 butterfly in 1:05.03 and 200 breaststroke in 2:39.93 during the second day of the four-day meet being held at the SPAR Aquatic Center.
David Rayner of Crawfish won two events in the boys 17-to 19-year-old division — the 400 IM (4:48.45) and the 100 freestyle (53.70).
Crawfish Aquatics leads the team standings with 1,390 points, ahead of Metairie-based Crescent City Swim Club (1,186) and northshore-based Blast (1,047). The Tiger Aquatic Club is sixth with 664.5 points.
Other individual winners for Crawfish included Brock Davis in the 19-and-under 200 backstroke (2:12.72), Peter Henry in the 19-and-under 100 butterfly (58.44) and Sara Lessard in the 14-and-under girls 400 IM (5:47.09). Crawfish also won the boys 19-and-under 400 free relay in 3:41.06
Second-place girls finishers in the 13- to 18-year-old division with local ties included Joanne Chien of Crawfish (15-16 girls 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke), Alyssa Dilldine of TAQ (14-under 400 IM) and Lexi Crovetto of (19-and-under 200 backstroke).
Austin Butler of Crawfish (15-16 100 free), Henry of Crawfish (15-16 100 free), John Michael Moore of Crawfish (15-16 200 backstroke), Collin Finnegan of TAQ (13-14 200 breaststroke) were local boys with second-place finishes in the 13-18 division.
Third-place finishers in the 13-18 division included Charles Doofe of TAQ (13-14, 100 free, 100 butterfly) Andrew Frazier of Crawfish (15-16 200 backstroke), Hayden Neubig of Crawfish (19-under 200 backstroke), Spencer May of Crawfish (19-under 100 butterfly), and Moore of Crawfish (15-16 100 butterfly).
Brannin Petit of TAQ (19-under 100 free), Margaux Hebert of Crawfish (15-16 200 breaststroke) and Laura Soileau of Crawfish (19-under 200 breaststroke) were among the girls third-place finishers.
No local swimmers placed first in the 12-and-under division. Second-place finishers included Brady Grenfell of TAQ (11-12 boys 100 butterfly), Victoria Padial of Crawfish (11-12 girls 50 backstroke), Gage Alleman of Crawfish (11-12 boys 50 backstroke) and Colin Bone of Crawfish (10-under 100 butterfly).
Connor Futch (10-under boys 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke), K-Rod Rodriguez of TAQ (11-12 girls 100 freestyle), Sean Apsey of Crawfish (10-under boys 50 breaststroke) and MK Miller of Crawfish (11-12 girls 50 breaststroke) were among the third-place finishers.
