Capitol Academy to represent Saints in NFL 7-on-7 tourney

Capitol High Academy will represent the New Orleans Saints in an NFL 7-on-7 high school passing tournament for teams from across the nation, Capitol coach Chad Germany said.
The Lions beat Edna Karr of New Orleans 27-17 in the title game of a Louisiana tournament hosted by the Saints at their practice facility in Metairie last weekend.
With the victory, Capitol which has dropped “Pre-College” from its name for 2008-09, will face other teams from across the nation starting on July 12 at the Saints practice facility.
“We’ll represent the Saints and play other teams that represent the NFC like the Giants and the Redskins,” Germany said.
“We’re still waiting to find out some of the details.”
Germany said 12 players make up the Capitol 7-on-7 team which consists of skill players and no linemen.
The group includes quarterback-receiver Terrance Broadway, receiver-defensive back-quarterback Bradley Brown, receiver-defensive back-quarterback Prentiss Jackson, receiver-defensive back Derrys Thomas, defensive back-linebacker Joshua Robertson, linebacker-running back Joshua Matthews, running back-defensive back Derriel Morgan, tight end Olando Lemon, defensive back-receiver Broderick Frederick, linebacker-tight end Teran James, running back-defensive back Frankie Jackson and receiver Makeith Edwards.
Coaches moving up
Former Walker High basketball and softball standout Casey Bourgoyne has been hired as the softball coach at Delta State University.
Bourgoyne has been an assistant coach at North Alabama for the last four seasons. As an player, Bourgoyne earned all-conference honors for Delta State three times as a shortstop from 1999-2002. She helped Walker advance to the Class 4A title game in softball as a senior.
--Ex-Redemptorist assistant coach Mark Jeanmard is the new football coach at Pope John Pail II in Slidell. Jeanmard was an assistant at Metairie Park Country Day.
Reunion planned
A 50-year reunion is set for players and coaches to honor coach Sammy Rispone of St. Gerard, Redemptorist Junior High and St. Alphonsus.
