Baker wins Arrowhead Junior Golf event
Kirby Baker won the girls title by winning both of her matches on the day, while Matt Decell also won twice to advance to the boys semifinal of the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour event.
Baker entered the final day of girls competition with a 1-2 record. But it didn’t matter.
The former St. Joseph’s Academy golfer defeated Ali Lucas of Crowley 1-up in the morning to avenge one of her losses. In the afternoon Baker ousted top seed Brooke Braun of Metairie 2 and 1, avenging her other loss while claiming the girls title.
Decell, a sophomore-to-be at St. Michael, is one of three golfers entering today’s 15- to 19-year-old division semifinal round with a 5-0 record.
On Wednesday morning, Decell defeated Sean Brown of Houma 7 and 6. He beat Anthony Landry of Denham Springs 7 and 5 in the afternoon.
Today, Decell squares off against Gavin Vegas (4-1) of Covington at 7:15 a.m. Bo Boudreaux (5-0) of Broussard takes on James Anderson III (5-0) of Leesville in the other semifinal set for 7:21 a.m. The winners meet for the title in the afternoon.
Vegas advanced with wins over Davis Chapman of Watson (1-up) and Werlien Prosperie III of Houma (3 and 2). Anderson defeated Buddha Ballard of Denham Springs (2 and 1) and Ashton Abel of Patterson (3 and 2) on Wednesday.
Jordan Karam of Lake Charles is unbeaten in the boys 12- to 14-year-old division. Karam defeated Ross Davis of Baton Rouge 2 and 1.
