Booras named new Tulane tennis coach

Mark Booras, who has served as an LSU assistant men’s tennis coach the past 10 years, has been named the head for the Tulane men’s tennis team.

Booras, the 2007 ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, will take over a program that has been suspended since Hurricane Katrina. The Green Wave will return to competition in the 2009-10 season.

“I am very grateful to have had the privilege to work with Jeff (Brown, LSU head coach) and be a part of this great LSU program,” Booras said. “I am excited and honored to be selected the men’s tennis head coach at Tulane University.”

Booras helped recruit some of LSU’s top players , including three-time All-American Ken Skupski.

LSU softball signees earn paper honors

The second and third members of LSU’s incoming softball recruiting class picked up player of the year honors from their respective hometown newspapers.

Joining infielder Anissa Young of Fontana, Calif,. who was named the San Bernardino (Calif.) Sun’s Player of the Year are fellow infielders Courtney Hollier of Kaplan and Juliana Santos of Modesto, Calif.

Hollier, a second baseman who was named the state’s MVP in Class 3A, was selected the MVP of the Lafayette Daily Advertiser’s All-Acadiana team after batting .440 with 20 doubles, seven homers, 40 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

Santos, who helped Orestimba High to the Sac-Joaquin Division V section title, earned Player of the Year honors from the Modesto Bee. She batted .600 with eight homers.

Boudreau, Canada qualify for Cup

PUEBLA, Mexico — LSU midfielder Taryne Boudreau and the Under-20 Canadian National Team blanked the United States 1-0 in Saturday’s championship match to win the title at the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championships.

By winning the eight-team tournament held by The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, Canada earned the right to compete at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held in Chile from Nov. 19-Dec. 7.
