LSU-Colorado series on hold

LSU’s determination to play football on the West Coast for the first time in 25 years will put the Tigers’ previously scheduled Rocky Mountain high on hold.

According to Verge Ausberry, LSU’s senior associate athletic director who handles football scheduling, a planned home-and-home series with Colorado for 2011 and 2012 will be postponed.

This is in part because LSU will open the 2009 season on Sept. 5 at Washington, with the Huskies visiting Tiger Stadium on Sept. 29, 2012.

“We’ve got to make some changes in the Colorado” series, Ausberry said Thursday. “We still want to play. We’ll just play them sometime in the future.”

Ausberry said Colorado was also trying to move some non-conference games around on its upcoming schedules as well.

LSU’s game at Washington next year would be its first visit to Husky Stadium and the Tigers’ first West Coast game since a 23-3 win at USC in 1984.

LSU and Colorado last met in 1980, with the Tigers winning 23-20 in Baton Rouge. LSU and Washington met just once, with the Tigers romping at home 40-14 in 1983.

With a road game at Washington and one scheduled against Tulane in the Superdome in 2009, LSU’s schedule for that season features only six home games. The Tigers are set to play Vanderbilt, Houston, Florida, Auburn, Southern Mississippi and Arkansas in Tiger Stadium.

However, Ausberry said the 2009 schedule isn’t finished yet.

“We’re still working on it,” said Ausberry, who acknowledged that LSU is still hoping to add a seventh home game.

Such tinkering so close to a football season used to be rare, but Ausberry admitted it’s now becoming commonplace.

“It’s an every year thing with the schedule now,” he said.

Boulder Colorado is much better than Seattle Washington for a football game. The Buff's stadium is the greatest place to play football if you have to play on the road. The weather is always nice and cool, and the view of the Flat irons is simply incredible. Washington will be much easer to beat than Colorado, however the Buff's facilities are far better for the traveling LSU football fan, and less expensive than Seattle by a mile. It's a mile high ! Higher is better. The game will most likely be played in the rain in Seattle. Any one who has been to Boulder will agree, it a special place to play football. Hopefully Les and the powers that be will come to there senses and work it out.

How does either team help our strength of schedule? we need to look for teams that are in the upper class of football...The huskies or Buffs are not. We need to hold our ground or play somebody like ULL at home.
