Ex-SLU guard signs contract with Giants
HAMMOND — Former Southeastern Louisiana guard Earl Cager has signed a free-agent contract with the Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
Cager, a 6-foot-5, 330-pound guard, started all 11 games for Southeastern Louisiana last season and was a second-team All-Southland Conference pick. A New Orleans native and St. Augustine High School graduate, he’ll report to the team’s minicamp on May 8.
Also, former SLU wide receiver Byron Ross has received a tryout offer from the New Orleans Saints.
Ross is expected to attend their rookie minicamp, which is scheduled for May 9-11 at the Saints facility in Metairie.
Ross, a former Kentwood High standout, finished second for the Lions in receptions in 2007 and was Southeastern’s top deep threat. The honorable mention All-SLC selection received a tryout offer from the Saints after running the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds at the school’s Pro Day workout.
