NEW ORLEANS — Taylor Rogers struck out a career-high 10 batters, and Rob Segedin tossed a pair of scoreless innings as Tulane won the Senator’s Cup Series with a 4-1 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Rogers (3-0) allowed one run on one hit and a walk in a seven-inning start to claim his third midweek victory in as many tries.

Segedin, meanwhile, earned his first career save after pitching his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth and added a pair of RBI singles during his time at the plate.

After two scoreless innings, Tulane (25-11-1) plated three in the third courtesy of an error, a wild pitch and Segedin’s first RBI-single.

That was all the run support Rogers needed as he retired the first eight batters he faced before giving up a two-out single to SLU nine-hole hitter William Lefever in the third. From there, he sat down the next 13 Lions batters.

SLU fell to 17-16.

NORTHWESTERN STATE 3, UL-LAFAYETTE 2: In Natchitoches, Justin O’Neal’s one-out single through the right side in the bottom of the ninth scored Denney Choate and Dylan Libadisos as Northwestern State rallied for the win.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Demons (18-16) as they picked up their first win over the Ragin’ Cajuns (17-18) in three tries this season.

Heath Hennigan, who threw just 1 2/3 innings in Saturday’s loss against Texas-San Antonio, started Tuesday’s game and tossed four hitless and scoreless innings while striking out five and walking one.

J.C. Bredengerd, the third and final pitcher out of the bullpen for the Demons, got his first win on the season after giving up a strikeout and walk in one inning of work.

Ben Rodriguez made his season debut for the Demons, returning from a torn labrum injury that sidelined him the entire offseason and most of this year. He threw two innings giving up a run on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

With Ryan Campbell’s four strikeouts in two innings of work, the Demons pitchers combined to strike out 14.
