Southeastern holds off Tulane
HAMMOND — Tulane’s Seth Henry went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, but was cut down at the plate on a botched double-play in the top of the ninth as the Tulane baseball team dropped game two of the Senator’s Cup Series to Southeastern Louisiana, 12-11, Tuesday at Alumni Field.
After taking an early 5-1 lead, Tulane saw the Lions come back with a run in the third, two in the fourth and another five in the sixth to give Southeastern a 9-6 advantage. The Wave answered with three runs in the top of the seventh to tie things up, but SLU came back with two runs in the home half of the inning and another in the eighth to set up the wild finish.
Southeastern’s Ty and Casey Summerlin combined to go 5-for-10 with four doubles, a home run and seven RBIs.
Ty Summerlin hit three doubles and drove in four while Casey Summerlin had a double, a home run and drove in three.
Andrew Velez (1-0) earned the victory after allowing a pair of unearned runs on no hits and two walks in an inning of relief, and Ryan Collins picked up his second save of the season courtesy of the ninth-inning play at the plate.
UNO 13, JACKSON STATE 6: In New Orleans, Nick Schwaner went 3-for-5 and had three RBIs as the University of New Orleans cruised past Jackson State 13-6 on Tuesday at Maestri Field.
Schwaner had an RBI single, double and triple and was one of four Privateers with multiple hits as UNO (13-8) won its fifth game in six outings.
