LSU mum on coaching search
Another day went by Tuesday with no signs of progress in LSU’s hunt for a new men’s basketball coach.
LSU associate athletic director Herb Vincent said the school continues to decline comment on the search.
Athletic media relations officials at Virginia Commonwealth said Rams coach Anthony Grant is also still declining comment, as did Grant’s agent.
VCU’s basketball contact Chris Kowalczyk said the school has not heard from LSU about receiving official permission to speak to Grant.
Southern California coach Tim Floyd reiterated Tuesday what he said in recent interviews with Los Angles media.
“All I’ve said is this is my last job at SC and that’s all I have to say,” Floyd said when reached by cell phone Tuesday.
Phone messages left with Baylor coach Scott Drew were not returned.
Baylor Athletic Director Ian McCaw did return a call and declined comment on whether he had heard from LSU.
Tuesday’s Waco Tribune-Herald reported that Drew and McCaw will meet later this week to “talk about a lot of things involving the basketball program, and I’m sure my contract situation will be one of the things we’ll discuss” according to Drew.
McCaw, who worked for LSU system president Dr. John Lombardi at the University of Massachusetts, made it clear that Baylor intends to do what it can to keep Drew in Waco.
“I’m looking forward to supporting him and working with him to help him continue to build a great program at Baylor,” McCaw said in the Herald-Tribune story.
