LSU women's golf ninth in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. — The 19th-ranked LSU women’s golf team couldn’t get back on track after the wind caused havoc Saturday and ended up with a ninth-place finish Sunday in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course on Sunday.
Host Georgia and Purdue tied for the team title after 54 holes with 36-over par 900. Georgia posted a 298 in the final round, while Purdue was three strokes better to get into the tie for the top spot. Georgia recorded four pars on the second playoff hole to win the team title.
LSU posted a round of 27-over 315 on the final day to finish at 64-over par 928. LSU posted rounds of 297-316-315 for the three-day competition which is the final event before the SEC Tournament in Loudon, Tenn., next month.
LSU was led in the final round by freshman Megan McChrystal who finished with a 4-over round of 76 to finish in a tie for 24th at 16-over 232 (69-87-76).

TIGERS IN A TIE FOR EIGHTH AFTER FIRST ROUND AT HOOTIE: In Awendaw, S.C., three Tigers posted rounds of 1-over par 72 to lead the LSU men’s golf team into a tie for eighth place after the first round of the fourth-annual Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at scenic Bulls Bay Golf Club.
Sophomore Bryant Lach and freshmen John Peterson and Clayton Rotz each finished the day in a tie for 22nd place after firing matching scores of 1-over 72 at the par-71 layout.
The Tigers are tied with Virginia Tech for eighth in the team standings with a team score of 6-over 290.
The 15th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks will carry a four-stroke lead into today’s second round after lighting up the course with the only under-par round of the afternoon at 4-under 280.
