Gomez named second-team All-CUSA

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane University senior David Gomez received his second award in as many weeks for his stellar performance this season with his selection to the 2008 Conference USA second team Monday.

A forward from Episcopal, Gomez is a repeat performer to the conference’s postseason team as he garnered third-team accolades a year ago.

In 2007-08, Gomez led the Green Wave to its second straight winning season. He leads the team in scoring (14.5 ppg), rebounding (6.1 per game) and blocks (45).

LSU-SHREVEPORT 80, XAVIER 76: In Shreveport, Josh Porter scored 22 points Monday to lead NAIA No. 4 LSU-Shreveport over Xavier University of Louisiana in the championship game of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Pilots (30-2) won the tournament for the third consecutive year. LSUS and Xavier (24-9) both advanced to the NAIA Division I National Tournament, which starts March 19 in Kansas City, Mo.

Shaun Dumas scored a season-high 23 points for third-seeded Xavier.
