HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The Southern Miss women’s basketball team closed with a 15-0 run in the final 3:15 to hand Tulane a 72-57 loss Sunday afternoon at Reed Green Coliseum.

Southern Miss (16-11 overall, 7-7 in Conference USA) was led by Pauline Love’s 21 points and 16 rebounds, while Stephanie Helgeson added 17 points. Kendra Reed chipped in 15 points, including a pair of three pointers.

Ashley Langford scored 14 of her team-high 16 points in the second half for Tulane. Brittany Lindsey added 14 points and six assists, while Nikki Luckhurst chipped in nine points and six rebounds.

The Green Wave forced 24 turnovers, but shot 33 percent from the field (22-of-66) and scored just 20 points off USM turnovers.

Tulane (14-13, 4-10) got outscored 42-18 in the paint, and 10-0 in fast-break points. Lindsey and Langford each picked up three of Tulane’s 14 steals on the afternoon.

DENVER 72, UNO 44: In Denver, Andie Mason had 17 points and Alisha Godette scored 14 as Denver beat the University of New Orleans at Magness Arena.

Mason was 6-of-8 from the field and added four 3-pointers, as the Pioneers (11-16, 6-10 Sun Belt) handed the Lady Privateers (12-15, 6-10) their fifth straight loss.

It was also UNO’s worst losing margin since a 67-30 defeat against Arkansas-Little Rock in last year’s Sun Belt Tournament.

Denver, which avenged a Jan. 10 loss at UNO, shot 46 percent from the field and was 10-of-21 from 3-point land. The Pioneers held UNO to just 30.9 percent shooting, including 27 percent in the first half.

Former Glen Oaks star Brittany Helm had a season-high 21 points but was the lone Lady Privateer in double figures.
