Top 10 to know about the ‘Jambalaya Capital’

GONZALES — By recent estimates, the city’s population popped about the 10,000 market this year.

Already a center for community and commercial activities in East Ascension Parish, Gonzales is adding to the recreational, arts and shopping attractions already available.

Cabela’s

Cabela’s, a 165,000-square-foot store on the outskirts of the city, offers outdoor merchandise and features museum-quality animal displays and aquariums.

Tanger

Gonzales is also home to Tanger Outlet Center for shoppers. More than 50 designer and manufacturer outlet stores and restaurants are featured in this popular outlet mall. Special coupon vouchers and incentives are available for groups.

Lamar-Dixon

The Lamar-Dixon Exposition Center is the largest equestrian facility in the state, with a main exhibition hall that seats 3,000.

It boasts three arenas, cattle holding pens, eight stall barns, recreational vehicle hookups and a picnic area plus climate-controlled buildings with catering services available.

For the tennis fans

The city is finishing its expansion of a tennis facility at Gonzales Municipal Park off of La. 44.

The improvements include three additional tennis courts and better parking for the courts.
