Rosedown explores ‘lost art’ of basket weaving
ST. FRANCISVILLE — Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site offers the next in its monthly series of “Lost Arts of the Nineteenth Century” demonstrations on June 20.
Visitors to Rosedown are invited to join Sasha Traña, as she introduces historic arts, activities and crafts that are rarely seen today.
Traña will discuss the history of basket weaving, the various types of basket weaving and the different materials and weaving processes used to make baskets.
The event will be on the back porch of the Main House between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Additional “lost arts” programs will be offered on the third Saturday of each month. In July, toy making and games will be featured.
Rosedown Plantation is on La. 10 in St. Francisville, 30 minutes north of Baton Rouge, off U.S. 61. The site is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Guided tours of the main house are provided on the hour, beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding with the final tour of the day at 4 p.m.
