Louisiana is home to some of the most respected products locally, nationally and internationally.  From candy to Cajun cooking products to coffee, Louisiana has a variety of  home-grown treasures.

Below is a sampling:

  • When someone says “Pass the hot sauce,” you can expect Tabasco pepper sauce.  Tabasco, owned by the McIlhenny family and produced in Avery Island, has been around for more than 140 years. The famous sauce is labeled in 22 languages and sold in more than 160 countries. It has also been added to military food rations and put on restaurant tables around the world.   • In the late 1800s, Stanislaus and Marie Melancon began  River Road Coffees in a small country store along River Road toward Baton Rouge. It all started with their idea that folks and family could come together and share stories over a cup coffee. Today a new generation of the Melancon family has continued the tradition of making fine coffee blends that people in south Louisiana have come to enjoy.   • Baton Rouge-based company Manda Fine Meats has been around since 1947.   • Jack Miller’s Bar-B-Que Sauce was produced at his restaurant, the American Inn, in Ville Platte. In 1955, the sauce was placed on the open market in South Louisiana and later in other states.   • Ponchatoula is home to the oldest family-owned chocolate company in the United States.
