After five successful years on the LSU campus, this year’s annual Baton Rouge Spring Garden Show is set to burst on the scene in full color March 29-30.
The show will again be inside the John M. Parker Coliseum on Highland Road from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.
Dr. David Himelrick, LSU AgCenter professor of horticulture, said the floor of the coliseum will be “transformed into a fascinating world of plants and gardens.”
Each year, the show includes numerous vendors selling a variety of plants and garden-related merchandise ranging from artwork and furniture to irrigation and unusual planters.
Local nurseries and other vendors will offer plants and other garden wares for sale, including tools, pots, ornaments and landscaping materials.
Local garden societies also will be on hand with information about their specialties, with plants for sale.
Himelrick said the show will be a fun event for the whole family and is the place to be if you love plants.
“The show is a great opportunity to get the information you need in order to be a successful gardener and to interact with local and LSU AgCenter gardening experts,” he said.
Organizations supporting the show include the Baton Rouge rose, camellia and hibiscus societies and the Baton Rouge Area Pond and Pond Fish Society.
Representatives from the LSU AgCenter will conduct a Plant Health Clinic to help homeowners diagnose plant pest and health problems and answer garden questions.
Children’s activities will include planting seeds, playing with insects and learning about animals.
The Kiwanis Club will again sponsor a chili cook-off on Saturday at the 4-H Mini Farm adjacent to Parker Coliseum.
LSU AgCenter faculty members will present a series of one-hour talks during the show.
