When a tropical weather system approaches the Gulf of Mexico, 2theadvocate.com will have continually updated weather maps, satellite images and weather data available around the clock.

All weather systems are monitored in conjunction with the WBRZ Weather Center and updated with information on the 2theadvocate.com home page, whether the system is in the Atlantic or in the Gulf of Mexico. Breaking weather alerts can be sent out to viewers and readers via cell phones, PDAs and other hand-held personal information devices.

When a tropical system — depression, storm or hurricane — enters the Gulf of Mexico, information and satellite images of the storm are displayed at the top of the home page with more information added as the storm strengthens or nears Louisiana. If a storm is near, a frequently updated storm story will provide readers with ongoing information as soon as 2theadvocate.com gets it. Readers can add comments to stories to tell others about locations of damage, power outages and other hazardous situations caused by a storm in the area.

2theadvocate.com will utilize information from the organization The Weather Underground, including its storm-tracking map, adding coordinates of each new system as it develops. Evacuation routes and paths of previous storms also will be available online.
