Game 4: LSU 28, S.C. 16
With few exceptions, what No. 12-ranked South Carolina tried on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Tiger Stadium, No. 2-ranked LSU did better.
Two quarterbacks. Taking chances. Running the ball. Winning with defense.
In a 28-16 victory against Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks, the Tigers continued to display new looks on offense and show they have a multitude of answers to adversity.
LSU, which won its 11th straight game, played without three key players, and quarterback Matt Flynn was not at his best after missing a game. The Tigers still had enough to overcome a game South Carolina team that tipped an LSU punt, picked off a pass and threw a few other roadblocks in the path of the Tigers.
Quotable
“You have to defend your house. It would be just like someone trespassing in your actual home. We don’t want anyone to come in and get a victory in our stadium.”
Kirston Pittman, LSU defensive end
Play of the game
LSU executed its first fake field goal for a touchdown since 2002 when Colt David caught a behind-the-back flip from LSU quarterback/holder Matt Flynn and ran 15 yards untouched for the score with 1:10 left before halftime.
Game ball
