Letter: Letter writer omitted his affiliation
In response to Mr. Kevin Serrin’s letter on intolerance toward gays and lesbians:
Mr. Serrin failed to mention that he is chairman of the Capital City Alliance that was formed to promote fair and equal treatment for gays and lesbians, information that would provide readers a context for his comments and political agenda.
Mr. Serrin chooses to live in a state that disagrees with the goals and agenda of his organization. That agenda is recognition of same-sex marriages.
Citizens of Louisiana overwhelmingly passed a constitutional amendment protecting traditional marriage. This is not a form of discrimination but government for and by the people. Our attitudes do not have to be changed to conform with his agenda.
Gays and lesbians need to respect the will of the people of this state.
The fact that I and the majority of the citizens of this state disagree with his position on gay/lesbian rights does not make me or others like me intolerant.
It is a favorite ploy of liberals, progressives and the gay and lesbian community to label everyone who disagrees with them as intolerant or hatemongers.
These groups believe in being tolerant as long as you agree with them or it fits their political agenda. Their definition of intolerance is when you exercise your right of free speech and express an opinion contrary to theirs.
Mr. Serrin also grossly distorts his rights as a citizen of Baton Rouge, the state of Louisiana and the United States. Mr. Serrin has every right and protection afforded him by the laws and constitution of Louisiana and the United States.
